A call to action is a marketing term that you may have heard – but what does it mean in practice?
When you plan your marketing activity, you are telling people about your organisation and its work. Using the marketing strategy that you have in place will make sure that you have clear messaging, an idea of who your stakeholders are and where to reach them. This is brilliant, but what is the next step that you want them to take?
You might think it is obvious; to buy your product or service or to donate to your charity; but for various reasons they might not be at that stage yet. Also, your marketing objective might be simply to raise awareness of your organisation.
A clear call to action can be the difference between someone being a potential customer and an actual customer. People are bombarded from all angles with emails, news, messages and adverts. If what you have to say catches their attention then how can you hold it and encourage them to act on that interest?
The next time you put a marketing message together, think about your call to action. Make it relevant to what you are saying and ensure that it engages people in the way that serves your overall objective.
